Tracking System in Machinery of Field Wing

In order to bring cultureable waste land under plow and improve the existing cultivated lands, farmers look for infrastructure and incentives from the public sector. Field Wing of Agriculture Department has the exclusive mandate to provide services for land and water resources development in the province. For land resource development bulldozers are provided to the farming community for development of culturalable waste land and improvement of existing cultivated fields on custom hiring basis. Similarly, power drilling rigs, hand boring plants and allied machinery are provided for ground water exploitation and exploration.

All the stores of Field Wing were computerized by using a web based computerized maintenance management system (SAP), including inventory management system of spare parts in all stores and workshops of Punjab Agriculture Department and to improve maintenance management of equipment. In addition to automate preventive maintenance of equipment the system enabled the department to make informed decisions when procuring new spare parts for its equipment, resulting in lesser down times and to avoid duplicate procurement.

The project goal is; efficient and economical service provision to the farmers regarding land and water resource development for increase in crop production through enhancing working efficiency of field machinery & equipment with the following objectives;

Objectives

  • To monitor the operation of field machinery & equipment through GPS based tracking system
  • To improve the work performance, enhance field efficiency and reduce operational cost
  • To reduce stoppage time by making quick repairs and replacement of parts

Implementation Plan

Tracking system will be installed at all field machinery and equipment of Field Wing by the selected firm under Service Level Agreement (SLA) Mode. Data will be collected at central place through GPRS connectivity at provincial, regional, divisional and district levels. Necessary hardware and software will be provided at these points. Centralized web based database of Inventory Management System i.e. SAP already being implemented will be connected with this system. This tracking system will help to collect all kinds of information regarding field machinery and equipment of Field Wing.

The proposed project will help in efficient service provision to the farmers in a transparent, innovative and accountable manner which will lead to improved confidence of people on public sector service provision thus resulting in increased crop production.
